The 2023 offseason was one that could make or break the Dallas Mavericks, and it has gone fairly well for them so far.

They managed to re-sign Kyrie Irving and have now landed Seth Curry, one of the premier shooters in the NBA, on a two-year deal.

“Free agent guard Seth Curry has agreed on a two-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks, co-head of @CAA_Basketball Austin Brown tells ESPN.”

Bizarrely enough, this is the third time in his career that Curry is signing with the Mavericks in free agency, having done so in 2016 and 2019 as well. Tim MacMahon is reporting that the Mavs are signing him using their $4-plus million biannual exception.

“Sources: The Mavericks used their $4-plus million biannual exception on Seth Curry, a 43.5% career 3-point shooter returning for his third stint in Dallas.”

Curry didn’t have much of an impact on the Brooklyn Nets in 2022-23, averaging just 9.2 PPG, 1.6 RPG, 1.6 APG, and 0.6 SPG, but he still shot 40.5% from beyond the arc. He’ll perhaps be getting a bigger role on the Mavs, as he averaged just 19.9 MPG for the Nets last season.

There would be some concerns defensively surrounding this signing as the Mavs are already challenged on that end of the floor with Kyrie and Luka Doncic in their backcourt. Still, his shooting will be quite helpful in spots, and he is certainly a good fit offensively next to Doncic.
