Karl-Anthony Towns has certainly raised a lot of eyebrows with his comments this offseason. Towns claimed earlier this month that he changed the game and also that the Minnesota Timberwolves making the playoffs was more impressive than the Denver Nuggets winning the title.

He was mocked for those comments but Towns’ confidence hasn’t taken a hit as he stated he is saving his left ring finger for a championship during an interview with GQ.

“I’m saving this finger for a championship,” says Towns, pointing to his left ring finger. “I’ve won at every level, except college, unfortunately.”

You certainly admire the confidence, but the problem is that he tends to shrink in the postseason. Towns averages 23.0 PPG on 52.6% shooting from the field in the regular season but in the playoffs, those averages dip to 18.6 PPG on 47.1% shooting.

In the 2023 playoffs, he averaged 18.2 PPG, 10.2 RPG, 2.0 APG, 0.6 SPG, and 0.8 BPG while shooting 45.7% from the field and 25.0% from beyond the arc.

It is simply not good enough for a player as talented as he is to play like that in the postseason and until he starts performing better, comments like these are going to be seen as a bit of a joke.

Karl-Anthony Towns’ Uncertain Future With The Timberwolves

With the Timberwolves now having to pay Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert, and Naz Reid a combined $443 million, it does seem like one of the two big guns will be traded at some point. Kendrick Perkins for one, believes Towns should be traded as the franchise now belongs to Anthony Edwards. He thinks KAT had the opportunity to take over the team and failed, so it is time to move on.

NBA executives also think Towns will be long gone before the 2024-25 campaign, with some believing he might be traded this offseason. A rumored landing spot for him is with the New York Knicks, but Bill Simmons suggested a blockbuster trade that sends him to the Portland Trail Blazers for Damian Lillard.
