The Blazers Had Discussed Swapping Scoot Henderson For Paul George

The LA Clippers' superstar has been named in trade discussions for some time now. But this would have made for a blockbuster trade move.

In what would have been one of the more blockbuster trades during the NBA offseason had it materialized, the Portland Trail Blazers had discussed swapping Scoot Henderson for Paul George.

The development was noted by NBA analyst Howard Beck in his offseason column for GQ Sports.

“A ball-dominant guard, Henderson is also perhaps not the easiest fit next to the ball-dominant Lillard. But the Blazers either didn’t find a trade that appealed to them, or didn’t try very hard—it’s not entirely clear. They did briefly discuss a swap of Henderson for Paul George, according to a rival executive.”

The LA Clippers’ superstar has been named in trade discussions for some time now. And it was Beck himself who added that George would be one of the players in play if the Clippers find the right player.

“Paul George might be in play… everything since then has validated that. I think he is in play… Paul George is certainly available. They aren’t trying to give him away, but they are trying to pivot… They do have a franchise-wide frustration with the way that this era has gone.”

Despite linking up with Kawhi Leonard, it’s not been a great run for George. Injury issues have certainly played their part in the team’s failure to win a title.

During the 2022-23 regular season, George averaged 23.8 PPG, 6.1 RPG, and 5.1 APG. And while he has proved that he is a champion on his day when he’s healthy, the Clippers will need a win, and they need it ASAP.

The Henderson-George swap may have been a failed discussion, but it’s interesting to see if the Clippers will consider having him in their ranks in the days to come.

The New York Knicks And The LA Clippers Have Discussed A Potential Paul George Trade

Amid all the trade talks surrounding Paul George, news of the Knicks and the Clippers discussing a potential PG13 trade did the rounds this month.

“The Knicks and Clippers have had contact about a potential Paul George trade, per SNY sources. It is unknown if the Clippers are willing to move George. Marc Stein reported earlier that Clips gave rival teams the impression that they were gauging George’s trade value last week,” wrote NBA insider Ian Begley.

And all the while, the Clippers are firm on their stance that they want to retain George. But this is the NBA, and nothing is guaranteed. Whether George remains a Clipper is still up in the air at this point.
