Shaquille O’Neal is one of the greatest players of all time, but what has set him apart after he retired from the NBA is his incredible work ethic. He has built a business empire and a lot of it also has to do with his endorsement deals.

Big Diesel has done commercials for ‘The General’ car insurance for a long time. And he once told the amazing story of how this relationship between him and the company began.

“So I’m walking one day and I see this Bronco II,” O’Neal said. “Sh*t was raggedy, but it was a car. $1,500. The guy was like, $1,800. So I get to the bank, I get about $300 and I get the rest in ones. So I got the thick knot. I go buy the car. He says, ‘Hey man before I let you drive, you need insurance.’ I’m like, ‘What’s insurance?’

He says, ‘You need insurance.’ So I call all these places, $300 a month, $200 a month. But now I gotta go back to the dude and I’m like, ‘I need my money back, I can’t afford insurance.’ And he said, ‘No, go to his place.’ And the place I went to was The General. And the reason why I do commercials for The General now is because they took care of me when I was young.”

This is an incredible story of how helping a young man out has led to incredible endorsement for The General as a company. Having Shaquille O’Neal as your brand ambassador means a lot to any company. And the fact that they got him long before even needing to negotiate too much is a testament to how much difference the little things can make.

Shaquille O’Neal Has A Diverse Portfolio

While he may not have lovely stories like these for every investment he is a part of, Shaquille O’Neal is someone that is involved in several businesses. The big man has built a fortune worth $400 million, and it’s because he has a diverse portfolio of both investments and endorsements.

Shaquille O’Neal owns the rights to some of history’s most iconic figures, names like Elvis Presley, and Marilyn Monroe. He also has hundreds of businesses to his name. And it seems like he believes in every one of them, especially the ones he endorses.
