Forward Tobias Harris is one of the best role players in the league, well-known for his two-way capabilities. There were definitely seasons where he looked close to being a star as well, and it seems as though some believe he has been misused during his time with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Recently, we saw Torrel Harris, father and agent of Tobias Harris claim that the Philadelphia 76ers are not using his son correctly on an episode of the Business Of Sports Podcast. He claimed that his son is an “assassin scorer”, and it is clear that he thinks Tobias Harris deserves more offensive touches.
“Michael Barr: “I’m probably gonna get in trouble with the 76ers and the league here, do they use your son the way they should?”
Torrel Harris: “Personally, I don’t think so. The reason I say that, well Tobias is an assassin scorer. I mean they can’t stop him. Nobody in the league can stop him. So he’s proven that over his career even when he was with the Clippers he was an assassin scorer… they traded him to the Sixers. Ever since [then] the Sixers,’ they put him in the corner.”
Even though Tobias Harris is a good scorer, it is fair to say that the team giving him scoring touches in seasons past has not led to playoff success. It is easy to see why the 76ers moved away from that strategy, leaning into the abilities of James Harden and Tyrese Maxey.
This season, Tobias Harris averaged 14.7 PPG, 5.7 RPG, and 2.5 APG for the Philadelphia 76ers. Though he clearly is a good player, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him get moved this season due to his status as an expiring contract.
The Philadelphia 76ers Demanded A Lot In A Tobias Harris Trade
A recent report revealed that as of right now, the Philadelphia 76ers are asking for “outrageous packages” to trade Tobias Harris. In fact, they asked the Cleveland Cavaliers to give up Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley to acquire Harris.
“Last week, sources told The Inquirer the Sixers are overvaluing Harris and asking for “outrageous packages in return.” That goes in line with what a source said the Sixers told the Cavs what it would take days before the draft: A package of Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and a draft pick.”
There’s no doubt that this is a lot to ask for Tobias Harris. However, this is likely a negotiating tactic, as Harris’ real value is quite likely a lot lower than what the team asked for.
