Karl-Anthony Towns recently drummed up a bit of discussion surrounding himself, as he boldly claimed that he would be looked at as a player who changed the game when he retires. One former NBA player took exception to these comments and delivered a brutal response to his claim.

Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas talked about Karl-Anthony Towns’ comments and had a perplexed response. He did note that he hasn’t been following Towns’ career but questioned what he has accomplished, and whether his place in Timberwolves history justifies him making such a claim.

“He hasn’t done anything to stand out. What position does he play?… Changed the game? There’s no Dirk?… He can’t say he’s better than K Love! Hold on, wait a minute. He’s not even the best power forward in the Timberwolves. KG, Kevin Love, than him? I hope I wasn’t this delusional when I played.”

Arenas was clearly not happy with the comments from Towns and thinks that he needs to prove a lot more and achieve some success before that claim can be valid. And that isn’t necessarily wrong, as Towns, despite his talent, doesn’t have a lot of accomplishments in his young career so far.

Karl-Anthony Towns: Underrated Or Overrated?

Gilbert Arenas was not the only one to criticize Karl-Anthony Towns for his comments. Draymond Green also took a massive shot at Towns for his comments. Clearly, KAT’s comments have stirred up a fair bit of controversy among NBA circles.

Last season, Karl-Anthony Towns averaged 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.8 assists for the Timberwolves. He and Rudy Gobert struggled to play alongside each other. One of KAT”s biggest weaknesses is on the defensive end, and he needs to improve that going forward.

There is a lot of debate on KAT’s future, and whether he will stay with the Minnesota Timberwolves. During his time with the franchise, they have not won a playoff series, and have not been able to build a regular playoff team around KAT. It remains to be seen whether he will stick around.
