The Minnesota Timberwolves haven’t done much since Karl-Anthony Towns’ arrival years ago, but there is hope that will change sometime soon. As it stands, the Wolves have plenty of talent, with guys like KAT, Anthony Edwards, and Rudy Gobert all expected to return next season. Of course, Towns specifically is facing more pressure than anyone to deliver his best season yet.
In the 2022-23 campaign, KAT averaged his lowest points per game since his rookie season, with his second-lowest shooting percentage ever at just 49%. And yet, despite the numbers, Towns is confident he’s still that guy. In an appearance on the Pat Bev podcast this week, Towns explained that he could go off for 40 every night if he could just call his own plays on the court.
“If you tell me before, ‘We’re gonna give you the ball, we’re gonna let you call your plays, and we’re gonna let you manipulate the game the way you want.’ I can get you 40 any day.”

Nobody can deny that Towns has some serious skills. Measuring 6’11”, he’s a big man with an unprecedented range who can score in a multitude of ways. He’s also a 3x All-Star and former no. 1 overall pick.
Can Towns Lead Timberwolves To A Championship?
At this point, KAT has yet to win a playoff series in his career, but that could be on track to change next year. If the Wolves can keep their core together and add some depth to the supporting cast, it could go a long way in making this team a legitimate contender.
Anthony Edwards will be the key to unlocking their future, but the trajectory of Towns will also play a major factor in how successful the Timberwolves are over these next few years.
“When it comes to like offensively gifted players… it’s KAT and it’s James Harden and I think I got KAT one,” said Patrick Beverley. “I’ve been around this motherf*cker.”
Only time will tell if the Wolves can find some success with their young core, but Towns hasn’t lost any but of the confidence he was drafted with. Let’s hope that’s a sign of things to come for the young and talented big man.
