Kyrie Irving and LeBron James once again were mentioned in the same sentence this week after reports of the point guard reaching out to James surfaced.
Irving reportedly wants to share touches with James, but not on the Lakers, as many thought. He tried to lure him away from Los Angeles to team up with him and Luka Doncic. This is an unlikely scenario, and Gilbert Arenas perfectly explained why this has little to zero chance of happening.
“LeBron is minding his business, and news is being broken. I just think it’s just one of those things where you’re just trying to create buzz. Free agency is probably an excuse for Kyrie to want to leave. ‘Oh, LeBron wants to come here, so I’m gonna go there’. He’s a Laker. His kid goes to USC, and his other son just decided to go to Campbell Hall, so he has no plans on leaving Los Angeles, especially for no Dallas Mavericks. LeBron is staying, and everyone else can go,” Arenas said on “No Chill with Gilbert Arenas.”
This is a solid explanation from Arenas, who is completely right on this. There’s no need for LeBron to change home right now and go join the Mavericks with two other players who are ball-dominant.
The Los Angeles Lakers had a good run this season, going all the way to the Western Conference Finals after starting the campaign 2-10. LeBron knows that if the front office makes the right moves, they could go further and challenge for another championship.
They could even lure Irving away from Dallas, but that’s not a likely scenario as things stand right now.
Los Angeles Lakers Don’t Have Any Intention Of Signing Kyrie Irving
Despite all the rumors putting them together, the Los Angeles Lakers have no interest in signing Kyrie. They are well aware of the reunion rumors with LeBron James, but the 17-time NBA champions aren’t entertaining any of this now.
This rumor could backfire on Kyrie since Luka Doncic is reportedly unhappy with the player’s attempts to bring LeBron to Dallas. They need to work on other things ahead of next season, and James isn’t the answer to any of them.
This offseason can change a lot of things for the Mavericks, but it’s too early to tell what will happen.
