For the better part of a year, there had been a lot of talk about Kyrie Irving potentially heading to the Los Angeles Lakers to team up with LeBron James.

So, when the reports came out that Irving had instead reached out to LeBron regarding him coming to the Dallas Mavericks and also that he was pushing for the Mavs to acquire him, it certainly was a shocker. Insider Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson now claims to have inside knowledge of James’ reaction to Irving’s request.

“Was told that Kyrie asked LeBron to come to Dallas and play for the Mavs.

LeBron’s reply on the phone was: ‘I’ll think about it.'”

If we do go by what Robinson claimed here, that is the kind of response you’d expect from James. He probably wasn’t going to shoot down a request from a friend right away, but at the same time, didn’t commit to anything either.

It has been reported multiple times at this point that LeBron wants to play with Kyrie, but is he so desperate to play with him that he’d leave Los Angeles? He’d have to uproot his family, which is so well settled in L.A. now, and Shannon Sharpe believes LeBron not wanting to do that would be why he wouldn’t head to Dallas. Bronny James is also going to be playing at USC this year, so you just can’t see LeBron leaving L.A. at this time.

The Only Way The Lakers Would Trade LeBron James To The Mavs Would Be If They Can Get Luka Doncic

What made this idea of LeBron ending up in Dallas even more far-fetched was the fact that the Mavs just did not have the assets needed to pull it off. They traded away some of their good role players to acquire Kyrie, and there is no one on their roster now whom the Lakers would really desire, with the exception of Luka Doncic.

Team insider Jovan Buha said the Lakers would entertain a deal involving Doncic, but the Mavs aren’t going to do that. It leads you to believe there is next to no chance this move happens this summer. If he really wants to go to Dallas, LeBron’s best bet would be to opt out of his player option next year and head over as a free agent.
