Luka Doncic Is Reportedly Not Pleased With Kyrie Irving’s Attempt To Recruit LeBron James

NBA analyst says Luka Doncic is unhappy with Kyrie Irving's attempt to recruit LeBron James to the Dallas Mavericks.

LeBron James is once again in the news regarding his future with the Los Angeles Lakers. Kyrie Irving reportedly wants the Dallas Mavericks to trade for LeBron this summer.

It could create a potential superteam of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Luka Doncic. NBA analyst Chris Broussard recently addressed these rumors. Broussard believes Doncic wouldn’t be too happy with how Kyrie reportedly tried to recruit LeBron to the Mavs.

“It’s Kyrie saying, ‘I wanna play with LeBron, but I wanna get the max [contract]. Why don’t you take less, LeBron?'” Broussard said. “This also reminds me of Kyrie’s press conference after they got swept. Close sweep, but they did get swept by Boston, a year ago, right? … If’m Luka, I’m none too pleased. If I’m Luka, I really don’t wanna play with LeBron. LeBron was his idol. He loves LeBron. … If LeBron were to go Dallas, with Luka, let’s just say it could happen. Obviously, Luka’s the best player at this point in their careers. But it still is so much now about LeBron and the quest to get a fifth ring.

“And the way LeBron plays now, they could coexist because LeBron’s off the ball a lot more and all that. But still, If I’m young like Luka, I’m like, ‘Nah, I got this. We were rolling, we were tied for fifth before the Kyrie trade, and then I see this stuff. I see Kyrie trying to dictate what we’re going to do.’ Now I’m really like, ‘You know what? Let me talk to Cuban and say sign-and-trade Kyrie for some depth.’ … It’s my team if I’m Luka Doncic.”

"If I'm Luka, I'm none too pleased [with Kyrie]. If I'm him I'd say, 'I got this. We were rolling before the Kyrie trade & now he's trying to rebuild the roster?! Trade Kyrie for some depth. This is my team.'"

The Dallas Mavericks finished the 2022-23 NBA season as the 11th seed in the Western Conference. They missed the play-in tournament after reaching the Western Conference Finals the previous year.

While Irving averaged 27.0 PPG, 5.0 RPG, and 6.0 APG, his numbers didn’t help the Mavs reach the postseason. He is an unrestricted free agent this summer and can join any team in the league.

But as Broussard mentioned, if Kyrie Irving tries to take control of the team, it could make Luka Doncic very angry.

LeBron James Is Unlikely To Team Up With Luka Doncic And Kyrie Irving

A potential superteam featuring LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Luka Doncic sounds like a dream, at least on paper.

But pulling off this trade is easier said than done. Keeping that in mind, a report recently claimed that although James and Irving could team up this summer, it’s unlikely that the King will get traded to the Mavericks.

“Given the hurdles that Dallas would have to clear in order to make this happen, it seems unlikely for now that LeBron ends up on the Mavericks with Irving and Doncic. But with Irving hitting the open market this summer as a free agent, the possibility of them playing together again could be in the cards, though them teaming up in Dallas would be far more difficult to pull off.”

Where will LeBron James play next season? This question will take away the sleep of many Laker fans. After all, if James leaves the team, Anthony Davis could follow in his footsteps and head elsewhere. It would ultimately lead to the Lakers entering another rebuilding phase.
