LeBron James is no longer in the playoffs, but he became the big talking point yet again after reports emerged that Kyrie Irving is pushing for the Dallas Mavericks to make a move for him.

It seems unlikely that the Mavericks would be able to pull off a trade for LeBron now and we haven’t received any indication yet that James wants to go leave the Los Angeles Lakers either. If he does decide to leave, however, NBA insider Marc Stein says he would be intrigued by the Mavericks.

“What can be bankably confirmed about any LeBron connection to the Mavericks: Dallas is certainly a team, league sources say, that would intrigue the 38-year-old as a potential landing spot if James ever reached the point of searching for a new place to play,” Stein wrote on his Substack. “James is a well-known admirer of Doncic — and vice versa — and maintains close relationships with Mavericks coach Jason Kidd and assistant coach Jared Dudley after their championship run together in the Walt Disney World bubble in Orlando to cap the 2019-20 season.”

LeBron once stated that Luka Doncic is his favorite player and we know by now that he does want to play with Kyrie, as multiple reports have indicated he wants the Lakers to acquire him. It would make sense then, that the Mavs would be a team he would look at as a potential landing spot if he ever decides to leave.

Should LeBron James Leave The Lakers?

There really is no reason for James to leave the Lakers at present, especially for a team like the Mavericks. The Lakers aren’t exactly a juggernaut, but if they get in the right pieces this offseason, they have a good chance at another deep playoff run.

If he does get traded to another team they’d have to give up a lot to get him and as we saw with Kevin Durant, gutting your roster for a superstar isn’t the best idea. LeBron’s best shot at a title next year is if he stays on the Lakers and you’d think he’d know that too.

He can always leave next year, as he has a player option for the 2024-25 campaign. It could be to the Mavericks or whichever team Bronny James gets drafted to.
