Anthony Edwards has established himself as one of the best young players in the NBA today and has had another fine season in which he averaged 24.6 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 4.4 APG, 1.6 SPG, and 0.7 BPG.

Edwards is eligible to get a max extension from the Minnesota Timberwolves this summer and has made the decision to leave Klutch Sports and sign with WME prior to it.

“Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards is expected to sign with @WME for representation, league sources tell @NBAonTNT, @BleacherReport.”

Edwards was going to get the five-year, $195 million deal no matter which agency was representing him, so there had to be some other reason for him to sign with WME. He had signed with Klutch Sports prior to the 2020 NBA Draft, and it looked like a long and successful partnership was in order. It wasn’t to be, and losing a client of the caliber of Edwards would certainly be a big blow to Rich Paul and Klutch Sports.

Anthony Edwards Has Been Urged To Leave The Timberwolves By A Former Player

Edwards has helped lift the Timberwolves from bottom-feeders to playoffs in each of the last two seasons. They won 46 games in 2021-22 and then 42 this time around, although they did get eliminated in the first round on each occasion. Edwards certainly wasn’t the reason why they lost and against the Denver Nuggets this year, he averaged 31.6 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 5.2 APG, 1.8 SPG, and 2.0 BPG.

Despite his heroics, they still lost in five games and you do wonder if Edwards, as good as he can be, can turn this franchise into title contenders. Former Wolves player Damjan Rudez isn’t so sure, as he called them a historically troubled franchise and stated Edwards needs to leave them to rise to superstardom. If he does sign this extension, then he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
