Two-way wing Jaylen Brown is one of the best players on the Boston Celtics, and he made an All-NBA team this year. There’s no doubt that he is an elite player, but his future with the team has recently been called into question.

There have been a lot of discussions among fans on whether the Celtics should give Jaylen Brown a supermax contract. Some NBA GMs recently spoke about this issue with Steve Bulpett of Heavy, with the general managers agreeing that letting him go would be bad for business.

“I hear fans up there are debating whether to give Brown the supermax (five years, $290 million), but at some point, the numbers don’t really matter,” said one general manager. “First of all, the guy is one of the better players in the league. Start there. I know people are all upset about his last game (19 points, 1-9 on 3-pointers, eight turnovers), and sure he was bad, but that was a team-wide collapse. Just take a step back and look at where he is and what he can do. The guy can play.

“But the main reason why everyone out here knows they have to get something done with him is that you can never afford to lose an asset like that. … Even if you sign him and things don’t work out with your team down the line, you have a player of value. All-Star players can attract free agents who want to play with them, or you can use your player as an asset in a trade.”

Another NBA GM suggested that under no circumstances should the Celtics let a talent like Brown leave for nothing or trade him at a low value, as they always have options down the line.

“From everything I’ve heard and I know, Boston wants Brown,” the GM said. “They see him as a big part of their future. But if things get messed up there — major injuries or things like that — you have to have the ability to make trades.

“Bottom line: you don’t let talent walk or get devalued.”

There is no doubt that the optimal move for the Boston Celtics is to retain Jaylen Brown. Star Jayson Tatum has already stated that he wants Jaylen Brown back, and we’ll see what happens in the future.

Brad Stevens Has Already Said The Celtics Want To Keep Jaylen Brown

The Boston Celtics are all-in on retaining Jaylen Brown, and Brad Stevens has already stated that the team wants him back, noting that he is a “big part” of the team’s direction moving forward.

“I’ve had nothing but great conversations with Jaylen, but we can’t talk about all that stuff,” Stevens said. “I’m not allowed to talk about the contract details, let alone the extension because it’s not that time yet. … But I can say without a doubt, we want Jaylen to be here, and he’s a big part of us. We believe in him, and I’m thankful for him. I’m really thankful for when those guys have success, they come back to work, and when they get beat, they own it, and they come back to work. So, I know that’s what they’re about. And that’s hard to find… Jaylen had a great All-NBA year. He’s a big part of us moving forward in our eyes.”

It will be interesting to see if the Celtics end up retaining Jaylen Brown. He is definitely a solid player, and if he ends up taking another leap for the team, the contract will absolutely be worth it.
