Jaylen Brown had a phenomenal 2022-23 regular season, where he averaged 26.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG, and 3.5 APG. Brown also earned All-NBA honors for his performance.

Unfortunately, Brown’s lackluster performance in the Eastern Conference Finals vs. the Miami Heat overshadowed his brilliant season. Considering the fact that Brown is eligible to sign a five-year $290 million supermax contract extension this summer, there are rumors that he may get traded. However, the Boston Celtics’ president, Brad Stevens, recently cleared that the team doesn’t want to move on from Brown.

“I’ve had nothing but great conversations with Jaylen, but we can’t talk about all that stuff,” Stevens said. “I’m not allowed to talk about the contract details, let alone the extension because it’s not that time yet. … But I can say without a doubt, we want Jaylen to be here, and he’s a big part of us. We believe in him, and I’m thankful for him. I’m really thankful for when those guys have success, they come back to work, and when they get beat, they own it, and they come back to work. So, I know that’s what they’re about. And that’s hard to find… Jaylen had a great All-NBA year. He’s a big part of us moving forward in our eyes.”

Brad Stevens refused to dive into the details of Jaylen Brown’s contract situation. But he did say that the Celtics would love to have their 26-year-old superstar back.

Brown can sign his supermax contract extension as early as July 01, 2023. The contract will kick in from the 2024-25 NBA season. The Celtics will need to be careful as they also have to deal with Jayson Tatum’s supermax contract the next year.

Jayson Tatum Wants Jaylen Brown To Sign An Extension

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have been teammates for six years now. During that time, the two superstars have forged a great bond.

Keeping that in mind, it’s no surprise that the duo wants to stay together. After getting eliminated from the 2023 NBA playoffs, Tatum shared his honest opinion on Brown’s contract situation.

“It’s extremely important. He’s one of the best players in the league.”

Jayson Tatum is the face of the Boston Celtics. So, if he wants Brown to return to the roster, the organization would bend over backward to fulfill Tatum’s request. Even if it means handing the biggest contract in NBA history to the 26-year-old.
