While it’s easy to look at the Nuggets today and call them a juggernaut in the West, it wasn’t always like this. In fact, just a few months ago, experts were doubting the Nuggets and whether their excellence could translate to the postseason.

The start of this run really began back in the 2020 bubble, when the Nuggets advanced to the Conference Finals. And yet, according to Donovan Mitchell, this Nuggets team is a completely different beast than the one he faced back then. As he would go on to explain, the modern-day Nuggets are much more loaded with weapons on both ends of the floor.

“They got more versatility… Michael Porter Jr. has taken a step, and you got Aaron Gordon back there too. [Nikola Jokic] being up on the pick & roll changed it… They got a lot of pieces, that’s the thing.”

The Nuggets have been great since the Joker arrived, of course, but the narrative has really started to shift since completing the sweep over the Lakers. Just three wins away from the title right now, they are the heavy favorites to win it all and Jokic has earned the respect of everyone along the way.

The only question for the Nuggets now is what more they can do while their window is open.

Nuggets Are Building A Dynasty

The job is not yet done for this Nuggets team, but there is a sense that they will be in this position for years to come. Nikole Jokic is still under 30, Jamal Murray is just getting started, and Michael Porter Jr. is expected to continue his amazing trajectory as a player.

If they are able to win a title this year and start nurturing a winning culture throughout the organization, don’t be surprised to see the Nuggets lift several more Larry O’Brien trophies in the near future.

“This is the best team I’ve seen in five years,” said Bill Simmons on the Nuggets. “It’s mostly because of how great Jokic is but also how they play off each other and how they always just get a good shot no matter what the scenario is… They definitely beat any of the 2018 teams, they would’ve beaten any of the bubble teams… I am saying the injured Warriors, nobody was beating those Durant-Curry Warriors.”

Denver has already changed a lot in the few short years since the Joker’s arrival. The franchise has gone from a joke to a dominant NBA force and there’s no looking back now.
