To say Jaylen Brown struggled in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat might be an understatement. Brown finished the series with averages of 19.0 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 3.4 APG, and 1.1 SPG while shooting a woeful 41.8% from the field.
He was particularly terrible in Game 7, finishing with 19 points on 8-23 shooting to go with 8 turnovers. It led to him being blasted on social media for his poor play, and Houston Rockets forward Tari Eason has come to his defense.

That’s just how social media works, though and it’s not just fans on Twitter who have gone off at Brown, but some ex-players too. Shannon Sharpe also roasted Brown for his terrible handles that saw him commit so many turnovers in that game.
What makes his showings against the Heat so puzzling, is that he had played well in the lead-up to the series. In the two previous rounds against the Atlanta Hawks and the Philadelphia 76ers, Brown averaged 24.6 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 3.4 APG, and 1.0 SPG while shooting 54.1% from the field. If he had kept that up, it could have been the Celtics taking on the Denver Nuggets in the Finals.
Jaylen Brown Faces An Uncertain Future In Boston
Brown made All-NBA Second Team this season for the first time in his career, which made him eligible for a supermax contract. He can get a deal worth $290 million over five years, but after this display against the Heat, you do wonder if the Celtics should give it to him.
Considering they’re going to have to give Jayson Tatum a supermax deal, too, the Celtics are staring down the proposition of paying $600 million to two players. If they had delivered a title by now, then perhaps you wouldn’t hesitate to commit that much money to them, but they haven’t.
The new CBA also makes life very difficult for teams who spend a lot, so the Celtics might have to part ways with one of them. They wouldn’t want to let Tatum go, which means Brown could be playing elsewhere in the not-too-distant future.
