The Golden State Warriors are among the most successful franchises in the modern NBA era. With four championships, a 73-win season, and 7 trips to the Finals in a span of roughly 10 years, you’d be hard-pressed to find any team that has accomplished more. Looking back, you have to credit Stephen Curry for the team’s miraculous run, but Kevin Durant’s arrival in 2016 changed the Warriors from a simple title contender to a historical dynasty.

For a while, we heard that it was Draymond Green who lured KD to Golden State, but team owner Joe Lacob recently confirmed that it was Bob’s idea during his final press conference as team GM.

“We last that horrible series in 2016, up 3-1. It’s hard to even think about or talk about, to be honest with you,” said Lacob. “I won’t say a lot other than Bob Myers was on the job pretty fast. It all worked out and it would not have happened if Bob hadn’t done what he did. he was the key guy, it was his idea, and his execution. A lot of other people had to do with it in the organization but it wouldn’t have happened without Bob.”

Remember, the Warriors nearly won back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016 before LeBron James and Kyrie Irving led the Cavs to a miraculous comeback from down 3-1. At the time, it broke the Warriors and their only way to recover was to recruit one of the greatest scorers of all-time to join the roster.

Did Draymond Really Call KD From The Parking Lot After Losing Game 7?

While Myers may have been the mastermind behind the Durant signing, it’s no secret that Draymond Green apparently gave him a call minutes after their Game 7 loss to the Cavs.

“Teams had figured us out, and I personally don’t think at that point Steph Curry had figured out, ‘I’m going to get a bucket whenever I want to.’ I don’t think he was capable of that yet. I think he was still growing into that,” said Dray. “The reality is, we got to a point where we needed to be able to give someone the ball that can just go get a bucket. And Kevin was already there. I don’t think Steph was there yet. So it gets us through those two years. We get those two championships.”

Whatever happened, and whoever is t blame for the arrival of KD, the Warriors made the right choice that summer and it’s what allowed them to maximize their title window with Steph, Klay, and Draymond.

Now that Myers is leaving, and the cast is getting older, one has to wonder how much longer they can keep their title as a team to beat in the West.
