Boston Celtics Should Trade Jaylen Brown For Damian Lillard, Says NBA Analyst

The other proposed theory would send Anfernee Simons and the No. 3 pick to Boston for Brown.

With the Boston Celtics’ season coming to an end, all eyes are now on the future of the franchise, especially Jaylen Brown.

Earlier, The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor proposed two trade scenarios for Brown — both of which send him to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for star assets.

“The top target on my list would be Damian Lillard, a born leader with elite shot-creation skills,” O’Connor wrote. “Lillard is far more potent than Brown, and he brings more offensive versatility since he can both thrive as an off-ball shooter and settle into a pass-first role when necessary.”

He then added: “The Celtics should also consider a different foundation for a Portland trade: Brown to the Blazers for Anfernee Simons and the no. 3 pick. Simons is less of a playmaker than Lillard, but he was a super-efficient borderline-30-point-per-game scorer when he ran the show in games that Lillard missed this season.”

“Simons is also more of a passer than Brown. Boston could also use that third pick in a separate trade or keep it to select a young playmaker such as the G League’s Scoot Henderson or Overtime Elite’s Amen or Ausar Thompson.”

The Blazers have been one of the teams that are linked to Brown well before the above theory. With Damian Lillard reportedly keen to play with the guard, their combination would instantly translate the Blazers into legitimate title contenders, especially with some promising names on the roster. While that would mean sacrificing a pick, the front office would be happy to do it if it means bringing home a title.

Jayson Tatum Wants Jaylen Brown To Sign An Extension

Regarded as the best duos in the league this season, Brown and Jayson Tatum were the cornerstones of the Celtics unit who were supposed to propel the team to a championship after falling short in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors last season.

While there have been ample demands for Brown to be traded, Tatum stressed that he wants Boston to sign Brown to an extension. “It’s extremely important. He’s one of the best players in the league,” he said.

Brown averaged 19.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in the series against Miami — pretty average numbers for a man who was expected to land a supermax contract later this year.

Safe to say, the Celtics will have some important decisions to make, and Tatum would be well off gearing up to play in Brown’s absence next season.
