The Philadelphia 76ers recently defeated the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of their series, with the game going down to the wire. The 76ers ended up winning due to a game-winning shot from James Harden, but Joel Embiid had a huge performance as well, putting up 34 points and 13 rebounds.
After the game, Joel Embiid posted a message to fans on his Twitter, stating that “improbable doesn’t mean impossible”, with a picture of himself holding the MVP trophy. There’s no doubt that he was a deserving MVP this season, though he did receive some fan criticism after he got the award over Nikola Jokic.

It will be interesting to see how far the Philadelphia 76ers end up getting in the playoffs. If they manage to get past the Boston Celtics, then they could easily make the Finals, as both the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat should be favorable matchups for the team.
In the playoffs, Joel Embiid has averaged 23.2 PPG, 10.5 RPG, and 2.7 BPG for the Philadelphia 76ers thus far. Though he has come alive in Game 4, the 76ers will need more from him to win the series offensively.
Joel Embiid Didn’t Like Receiving The MVP Award In The Middle Of The Playoffs
Joel Embiid received his MVP award in the middle of the playoffs, and it seems as though the center was not a fan of the timing. In fact, he claimed that he felt “the attention” that comes with the ceremony can be a distraction.
“I thought I got into the game and let the game come to me and not force anything, not play off of my emotions, I thought I was fine the whole week,” Embiid said. “I don’t think it affected me, but all this attention I feel like it can be a distraction, and I just feel like this type of stuff [can] happen in another time. You got that whole week between the regular season and the playoffs, right before the playoffs you can do something like that.”
We will see if the league makes an adjustment to the timing of when the regular season awards get presented. There’s no doubt that Embiid is right and they can take away from the atmosphere of the playoffs, but ultimately it can also be satisfying to get a win after getting one’s award.
