Jordan Poole could have sent Game 1 of Warriors vs. Lakers to overtime if he hit a late three-pointer that was attempted from extremely deep.
Many fans have criticized the shot for being poorly thought out but Tyrese Haliburton defended it while watching the game. That led to former NBA Champion Channing Frye roasting him for endorsing the deep three.
Taylor Rooks: Oh my God. He can’t be serious.
Channing Frye: Ain’t no way.
Tyrese Haliburton: What’s wrong with that shot? What do you want him to do, take a dribble?
Channing Frye: There’s 10 seconds left in the game.
Tyrese Haliburton: What if you’re not gonna get a better shot than that? No contest.
Channing Frye: He’s shooting where Darvin Ham is, get off the Henny.
Tyrese Haliburton: You don’t like that shot? I’m not mad at that shot. He’s wide open.
Channing Frye: Dawg, from that far away with 10 seconds and you have an advantage?
Tyrese Haliburton: I am shooting it. I feel you Jordan, I would have shot that too.
Channing Frye: That’s why you’re here with us.

Poole had a solid game outside of that shot, giving the Warriors 21 points off the bench. He hit 6 three-pointers in the game and decided to take a heat-check shot at the worst possible moment. In fairness, he was wide open and the Warriors’ offense had fully scrambled, so taking that shot instead of holding the ball and letting the Lakers’ defense organize itself could have led to the same result. You take the shots and you live with them.
A Game 1 To Remember
This was a frenetic game that saw both teams enjoy periods of dominance. The Lakers took control of the game in the third quarter and enjoyed a double-digit lead in the fourth which the Warriors obliterated by going on a 14-0 run and tying the game up. Thankfully, the Lakers managed to close it out for the 117-112 win on the Warriors’ home court.
Anthony Davis walked out as the star of the night, as LeBron James underwhelmed offensively. But the team defense and contribution across the roster helped the Lakers close out the Warriors who hit a lot of three-pointers but couldn’t stop the Lakers on the inside without sending them to the line.
Game 2 will take place on Thursday, with the Warriors hoping to tie the series up before it heads to LA for Game 3.
