Heat, Knicks, Celtics, And Nets Could Target Karl-Anthony Towns In A Trade

Center Karl-Anthony Towns is one of the best big men in the game, highly regarded by many for his shooting ability. As of right now, he is on the Minnesota Timberwolves, but it seems as though that could end up changing.

According to Sean Deveney of Heavy, there are multiple teams that could end up as “potential suitors” for the big man. The most notable teams included would be the New York Knicks, the Miami Heat, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Boston Celtics. However, the Knicks are notably viewed as the “likeliest landing spot” for the center by team executives.

“Among the teams executives mentioned as potential suitors for Towns: Brooklyn and Miami (two teams that will inevitably come up in any potential superstar trade talks in the next six months, though the Heat’s Jimmy Butler has a rocky history with Towns), Portland (in a Damian Lillard deal?) and Indiana. Should Boston consider dealing away All-Star wing Jaylen Brown, which is a longshot, the Celtics could offer the best single player in return for Towns.
But if a Towns moves comes about, New York is the likeliest landing spot.”

It will definitely be interesting to see if the Minnesota Timberwolves will decide to trade away Karl-Anthony Towns. The priority for them should be building around Anthony Edwards, and moving Towns could give them the draft capital required to get an elite player next to him.

In the playoffs, Karl-Anthony Towns averaged 18.2 PPG, 10.2 RPG, and 2.0 APG for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Though this is a solid stat line, many expect more from Towns due to his ability as an All-NBA talent. He has had a tough playoff series, and hopefully, we see him bounce back.

The New York Knicks Could Also Have Other Options

Though it is clear that the Knicks are interested in Karl-Anthony Towns, they might also have other options. It was previously reported that Damian Lillard is a player that could potentially be willing to join the New York Knicks if he ended up leaving the Trail Blazers.

“Damian Lillard is one of the greatest guards to have ever played in NBA history…I have a long and lengthy relationship with Dame, I got a lot of love for him. I practically begged this man to be in New York City, for the New York Knicks. I’d have given anything for him to end in… The New York market, in a New York Knicks uniform… If he were to depart from Portland, the one place he would have wanted to be was (as) a New York Knick,” Smith said on Monday’s edition of First Take.

There is no question that Damian Lillard would be a great addition for the New York Knicks, though pairing him in the frontcourt with Jalen Brunson could cause issues on the defensive end. Still, it is clear that the Knicks have the opportunity to get a big-time player to join them in the future, and we’ll see which star will end up doing so.
