Miami Heat Should Trade For Kawhi Leonard, Says NBA Analyst

The team culture and the presence of Jimmy Butler would make Miami a good place for Kawhi Leonard, the analyst felt.

NBA analyst Colin Cowherd suggested a new home for Kawhi Leonard after the LA Clippers were eliminated from the first round of the playoffs against the Phoenix Suns.

“Jimmy Butler plays hurt all the time and is available,” Cowherd said on his podcast. “So is Bam (Adebayo). So, if you have an established culture and an established star – preferably one that plays 70 games a year – he’s fine.”

Cowherd’s comments come on the back of Kawhi missing out on three games in the playoffs after suffering a torn meniscus. The forward played 52 games this regular season and was on minutes regulation so as to ensure that he wouldn’t aggravate his previous injuries. He was a threat early on for the Suns, and the season saw him average 23.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.

Earlier, NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith had stern words for the Clippers superstar. Speaking on First Take, “The man is a two-time champion. He’s a two-time [Finals] MVP…But he is the absolute worst superstar you could possibly have on your team. He’s barely ever there, and on top of it all, he does nothing to market or promote your franchise,” he said.

Coming back to Cowherd’s thoughts on Kawhi for the Heat, the team would undoubtedly be a superteam, but it remains to be seen if he can adapt to the ways of the side.

LA Clippers Believe That They Can Win A Championship With Paul George And Kawhi Leonard

Despite the failures the team has endured with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers have been persistent with the duo and continued to repose their faith in the two even after the first-round exit.

According to Sportsnaut’s Mark Medina, “Leonard, 31, and George, 32, are still in the prime years of their NBA careers and are enamored with their talent as two-way players. Though the Clippers had championship aspirations immediately after acquiring them, they still believe they have years left on their championship window.”

This is strong faith from the Clippers, but they have their reasons. The addition of Russell Westbrook bolstered their second half, and the guard has already been incredible in the playoffs in the absence of George and Kawhi. The trio makes for a solid unit, and the team would be tempted to give them another shot.

But can they make it count?
