Paul George didn’t have to think a lot when he had to pick his starting five from the all-talented NBA players this season.

Speaking on his latest episode of Podcast P, the LA Clippers star had a tough time choosing his point guard.

“At my point, Imma go with LaMelo, it’s a split, I’ll go LaMelo and Lonzo. I think both of them have pure talent. Actually, I would say that Lonzo is more pure talent than LaMelo. What can’t Lonzo do? He can shoot, he can play make, his IQ, he can rebound great for his position.”

Safe to assume that George would pretty much go with Lonzo as his point guard given his praise for the Chicago Bulls star.

“At shooting guard, Imma go Jaylen Brown. I think Jaylen Brown’s skillset is through the roof, I think he can do everything. He’s an elite scorer, he can handle, he can play make, athletic, there is not much I don’t see him being able to do. And he is one of my favorite young players.”

He further added: “At third, I think that dude is a sleeper and don’t get talked about enough – Imma go Ingram. It’s another guy that can do everything. He is an underrated playmaker, he is a scorer, he takes the challenge on defense.”

“At the four, it’s the easiest and the most obvious, it’s Giannis. His talent, his skill set, like that, is a gifted athlete. And at my five, imma go with Joel…Joel is just such a force. Nobody that size can euro and miss you. That’s a generational talent.”

George has perhaps made the perfect pick given the players he chose have been prolific for their respective teams.

LaMelo and Ingram failed to make the playoffs, and Lonzo was sidelined with a knee injury that rules him out for a majority of the 2023-24 season as well. The likes of Brown, Antetokounmpo, and Embiid are all in the postseason.

Paul George’s Injury Came At The Most Inopportune Time For The LA Clippers

The LA Clippers were firm favorites to win the NBA championship at one point in the season, and the signing of Russell Westbrook saw them make their intent clear — it was all or bust, except it turned out to be the latter.

Injuries to George and Kawhi Leonard — one ahead of the playoffs, and one right in the midst of it derailed their campaign. And while Westbrook was in the form of his life, it wasn’t enough to overcome the daunting Phoenix Suns’ threat.

George was expected to link up with the Clippers if they advanced to the second round, but with the Suns completing a 4-1 win, the guard will now focus on complete recovery and gear up for a better run in the upcoming season.

It was unfortunate that George went down during the time the Clippers needed him the most. Maybe, their first-round matchup would have gone a lot deeper had he been healthy.
