Since LeBron James first signed with the Lakers, fans have been waiting for a Lakers vs. Clippers matchup in the NBA playoffs. As far as rivalries go, those two fan bases hate each other, and it has almost become a sport for Lakers fans to pick on their Clippers teammates.

But if you ask Lamar Odom, Lakers fans should be rooting for the Clippers if they want to stay truly loyal to the city.

“I’ll be honest with you,” Odom said. “If you a Laker fan and the Clippers are playing, you should be rooting for them. Some type of patriotism.”

Many Lakers fans disagree very strongly with Odom. Besides daring to inhabit the same city as the most successful franchise in the league, the Clippers are a team very much in the way of what the Lakers are trying to do this season, and they shouldn’t take them lightly if they happen to cross paths.

Of course, they could finally face off this year if both teams advance to the Conference Finals.

Will We Finally Get The Battle For LA?

The Clippers have the hardest road to the Conference Finals. If they beat the Suns in the first round, they would have to defeat Nikola Jokic and the top-seeded Nuggets to secure a path to round three.

Meanwhile, for the Lakers, they’d have to beat the Grizzlies and Warriors/Kings to make the Conference Finals. Still, there are some that believe a Los Angeles showdown is possible this year.

“We just match up well against the Lakers. We got bodies to guard Bron,” said PG on potentially facing the Lakers. “We got playmakers, we got scorers, we got defenders. We can kinda do multiple things to limit and give Bron a tough time. As good as he is, we got bodies over there so we give the Lakers a good run.”

Of course, only time will tell us how this all plays out, but it’s clear that the Lakers and Clippers are enemies, not friends. And despite what Lamar Odom might say, Lakers fans will always be rooting for the Clippers’ downfall.
