Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young was voted as the NBA’s most overrated player in an anonymous player poll on Tuesday.

According to Sam Amick and Josh Robbins of The Athletic, a total of 108 players were polled on multiple questions that factored in the final three weeks of the regular season, and Young was the first on the list of overrated players at 14.8%. An undisclosed ‘other’ was at 31.5%

Trailing Young was New York Knicks forward Julius Randle and Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam at 7.4%, followed by Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler at 5.6%.

Young, a 2018 No. 5 draft pick out of Oklahoma, has been phenomenal since his arrival in the NBA. Over the course of his five-year career in the league, he has been consistently averaging 25.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 9.3 assists.

The current season has him propping up 26.2 points as he helped the Hawks make the playoffs for the third year in a row  — one of which saw them make the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021. Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari opined that the guard’s average defense might have been one of the factors behind the vote.

On his part, Young will surely turn a blind eye to the voting as he will look to focus on taking the Hawks deeper into the playoffs.

Trae Young Responds To Trade Rumors Surrounding Him

Trae Young has been one of the names speculated to find a new home in the offseason. This was further cemented when reports emerged that the Hawks front office has the green light to trade the mercurial guard.

The two-time All-Star, in an interview with The Athletic’s Joe Vardon, responded to the rumor mills that were churning.

“It could be false, could be true, you never know,” Young said. “It’s hard – you can’t look at it. Especially as the player at the moment, you can’t look at what’s gonna come next year. After the game, if the game doesn’t go your way tonight, what’s gonna happen? Like, you can’t focus on things like that. That messes up your head and then you’re not ready to play.”

He further added: “So, me, I’m not worried about that. I’m gonna let my game play. After the season, whatever happens, happens. I mean, I’m focused on the next task at hand. I can’t worry about the outside noise or whatever fake stories come out, or what’s true, whatever.”

For now, the Hawks, despite all the regular season furor surrounding them, have made the postseason. And whether or not he remains in Atlanta after their run this season is still up in the air. Safe to say, there won’t be a dearth of suitors for the guard.
