The Chicago Bulls had some support from the sidelines in the form of DeMar DeRozan’s daughter, Diar, during their must-win play-in game against the Toronto Raptors.
The nine-year-old screamed 36 times to distract the Raptors, and the ploy seems to have worked. The team missed a season-high 18 free throws in their 36 attempts. They eventually went down 109-105.
Toronto’s struggle from the free-throw line gave the Bulls a sniff of bulldozing their way back into the game after trailing by 19 points in the third quarter. They also had Zach LaVine to thank for after he exploded for 30 points in the second half, while DeRozan chipped in with 23 points and 7 rebounds.
The Bulls’ win eliminated the Raptors, and the former now booked a date with the Miami Heat on Friday as they joust for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
DeMar DeRozan’s Reaction Was Priceless When He Realized It Was His Daughter Screaming
There’s cheering, and then there’s screaming. And Diar was doing the latter, leading her father to have a rather stunned reaction.
“She went viral,” the forward said in the aftermath of the win. “I kept hearing something during the game. I looked back and I was like, damn, that’s my daughter screaming?”
While at it, he also added that she wouldn’t be traveling to watch their crucial game in Miami against the Heat. “Nah, she gotta go back to school.”
Chicago’s job isn’t done yet. They will be up against a team who they have beaten 3-0 during the regular season this time, but with the likes of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo smarting after a tough loss to the Atlanta Hawks, DeRozan and LaVine can’t afford to miss a beat against the Heat.
Maybe, bringing Dior to the key clash wouldn’t be a bad idea after all.
