NBA big man DeMarcus Cousins was once considered one of the best big men in the entire league. But after years in Sacramento and a trade to the Pelicans, Cousins’ career was ravaged by injuries and he hasn’t been the same since… but his confidence has not wavered.
Speaking on ‘KG Certified,’ the former NBA All-Star got real on his NBA journey and explained where he believes he’s at compared to others in his position.
“As of right now, I’m the third-best center in the NBA.”

That’s a hot take from Cousins considering he isn’t even on an NBA roster, but you can’t blame the man for keeping confidence in himself despite obvious limitations.
Boogie last played for the Denver Nuggets last season, where he averaged just 8.9 points and 5.5 rebounds in two games. Unfortunately, Cousins isn’t the player he used to be with the Kings and it’s unlikely he makes it back to the NBA after injuries limited his effectiveness on the court.
DeMarcus Says He Still Belongs In The League
Despite what the numbers might show, it’s no secret that Cousins still thinks he’s good enough to be on an NBA roster and insists that teams are not giving him any good reason why he can’t make the cut.
“That’s honestly my biggest issue,” said Cousins. “You never really get an honest answer… I look at myself first, and what I can do to better myself. I’ve asked many questions, I’ve reached out to former teams…I can never really get the raw honest truth. I would love to get a real answer.”
As a 4x All-Star and 2x All-Defensive player, there is no doubt that Boogie was elite and he got compensated well during the height of his run. After the first major injury, Cousins got a few more stints across the league including with the Warriors, Clippers, and Bucks.
Today, at 32 years old, he’s not that guy anymore no matter how confident he is. He’s also not the NBA’s third-best center for obvious reasons but it doesn’t[t mean we can’t look back and respect what he did while he was healthy and at the top of his game.
