Tyronn Lue is known today for leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to an NBA Championship as the head coach in 2016, or for his general coaching strategies.

But Lue first became a popular name among fans after Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals. The reason behind it was Tyronn Lue falling down after contesting a shot by Allen Iverson. Iverson then proceeded to step over Lue and give fans one of the coldest moments in the league’s history. One would think Lue must be embarrassed to talk about that moment; however, the Clippers’ head coach believes that moment made his NBA career.

“Everybody talking about the step over and all that stuff but he made my career. If it wasn’t for AI, I don’t know where I would be. That challenge helped me get my next contract and allowed me to stay in the league for 11 years. After that step over, I signed with the Wizards that summer. If it wasn’t AI making it to the finals, you probably would not have seen Ty Lue. By him making it to the finals and me getting a chance to guard him in the finals, that helped me in my career.”

It is a really positive approach from Lue. Instead of getting angry at Iverson for stepping over him or thinking of it as disrespect, Lue believes that moment made him the person he is today.

Looking at the clip attached above, any fan would fall in love with the mesmerizing moves of Allen Iverson. He will forever remain one of the best players to play in the league, and fans will never forget his iconic moment against Tyronn Lue.

Allen Iverson On Stepping Over Tyronn Lue

Tyronn Lue has never hesitated to talk about Allen Iverson’s iconic step over in the 2001 NBA Finals. Fans love this about the former Lakers player and have applauded him several times for it.

But what about the other side of the story? Why did Allen Iverson step over Ty Lue after scoring on him? Well, AI shared his thoughts on it in an interview and claimed he didn’t do it intentionally.

“I was just playing, man. I don’t know how it happened, it was a reaction. Me and him had been going through it in the series and especially that game. He was doing a lot of holding, and it was frustrating me. So we were drawing back and forth with each other, and then when the moment presented itself, when I came down from shooting a jumper he had fell and it just happened. People tried to get me to emulate it over these many years later, and I cannot do it. To save my life, I cannot do it. I cannot do it the same way. So, it was just the moment, I was into the game and it just happened, it was god.”

Iverson honestly answered the question and revealed he cannot repeat the moment, even if it was to save his life.

The fact that AI cannot recreate the moment no matter how hard he tries; maybe that’s what makes it one of the greatest moments in the history of the NBA.
