No one could have predicted before the start of the season that the Sacramento Kings would be the 2nd seed in the Western Conference in March, but that’s exactly where they are.

If it stays this way and the Kings finish second, then Nick Young believes De’Aaron Fox should win MVP while Mike Brown should win Coach of the Year.

If the kings finish 2nd in the west fox MVP and brown coach of the yr no matter what .. the warriors miss him

— Nick Young (@NickSwagyPYoung) March 8, 2023

The Kings who are currently 38-26, have already surpassed their win total from last season and look set for a 50-win season for the first time in nearly two decades. Fox has been a big reason for their success, averaging 25.5 PPG, 6.3 APG, 4.3 RPG, and 1.1 SPG while shooting 51.5% from the field.

He deserves a lot of praise but does he have a shot at MVP? Most probably not and, in fact, his co-star Domantas Sabonis has generated more MVP buzz than him, as he is leading the league with 12.3 RPG while also averaging 18.9 PPG and 7.0 APG. The Kings were ridiculed for giving up Tyrese Haliburton to acquire Sabonis last year but his excellent play shows they didn’t really make a mistake.

While neither of the two will win MVP, Head coach Mike Brown probably has a very good chance at winning COTY. No team has exceeded expectations like the Kings have and his arrival this season has really transformed the franchise. The Golden State Warriors have also missed him as Young points out, as Brown was an assistant coach for them last season.

How Far Can The Kings Go This Season?

Just getting into the postseason is a huge positive for the Kings, but they’ll be wanting to make some noise in playoffs. They will certainly be a handful for anyone they face, as they have the best offensive rating in the league at the moment at 118.6, as per the NBA.

Defense is where the problem lies though as the Kings rank 25th in the league in defensive rating at 115.9, as per the NBA. That will ultimately cost them in the playoffs as you can’t just rely on your offense all the time. That coupled with their inexperience is perhaps why teams like the Lakers want to play them in the first round but as they say, be careful what you wish for. A championship run is highly unlikely but the Kings are capable of winning a series or two.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
