As the basketball world sets their eyes on the rising Lakers, two Western Conference contenders faced off today in a battle that could have big implications for the upcoming postseason.
For that reason, it was no surprise at all that the game was chippy and highly intense… but the moment went even further than that in the second half when the Suns and Mavericks started going back-and-fourth.
Devin Booker was the source behind the heat, as he took full ownership of trash-talking Luka down the stretch. Apparently, he also had a moment with Kyrie Irving as well.

It looks like Irving was trying to stand up for his teammate, who was being antagonized by Booker all night long. The Suns walked away with the win this time, but something tells me that Kyrie and Doncic will have something more to say if they ever meet again down the road.
Suns Vs. Mavericks Could Be A Potential Playoff Matchup
In the crowded Western Conference, only three games separate the Suns from the Mavericks in the standings and their positions are subject to change in the coming weeks.
If these two teams do end up meeting in the playoffs, it would surely be an amazing series, and not just because of the talent on each side.
After nearly four years in Brooklyn together, KD and Kyrie Irving were close as kin and wanted the whole world to know just how close they really were. While the personal relationship still exists between the pair, it’s no secret that they haven’t talked much since parting ways last month.
“We all move and do the things that we wanna do for our careers,” said Durant on the ETCs. “I can’t fault somebody for doing that even though it might have been at our expense as a team. I don’t wanna act like I wasn’t upset that we didn’t finish the season, because I love playing with [Irving]. I wanted to see where we can go with that because we were both playing at a high level. What he was doing behind the scenes, what his contract negotiations was, I don’t want to even think about any of that stuff. “Whatever he is doing, that’s him. We haven’t had a conversation but eventually we will.”
So, while the two might be friends off the court, it’s clear that their teams are not huge fans of each other. Between Durant, Booker, Chris Paul, Kyrie Irving, and Luka Doncic, it’s no surprise that tempers flared as the game neared its conclusion.
Hopefully, we get to see more of this matchup when the stakes are even higher.
