Forward Chet Holmgren is one of the most exciting prospects in the league, even though he has not yet played a game in the NBA. He is 7’1 with a guard-like skill set, and we have even seen some who compared him to Kevin Durant.

Though a lot of people have expressed doubts about Chet Holmgren potentially being a star in the league, he also has a lot of believers. One of those people is respected veteran Patrick Beverley, who recently explained that Holmgren’s toughness is the reason he is going to be elite in the league.

“I’ve been speaking to some guys around the league, I’ve been asking about Chet, their response has been this: “Hey Pat. He’s going to be nice, not because of his size or his talent, but because of his attitude. He don’t duck sh*t, he ain’t scared sh*t, he tough… that’s what’s going to keep him in the NBA. Being mentally tough, he going to be challenged every game, but they say he like to go right back at mfs”.

There’s no doubt that mental toughness is crucial to surviving in the league and having a long and productive career. That will certainly help Chet Holmgren when going against the best of the best. Hopefully, we see Chet Holmgren bounce back from his foot injury, and become the star-level player his talent suggests he can be.

In his lone season with Gonzaga, Chet Holmgren averaged 14.1 PPG, 9.9 RPG, and 1.9 APG, while shooting 39.0% from the 3PT range. He will impact the game immediately for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and it’ll be exciting to finally watch him play.

Chet Holmgren Believes In The Oklahoma City Thunder’s Long-Term Potential

There’s no doubt that Chet Holmgren is part of a talented and young Oklahoma City Thunder squad. In fact, he previously stated that he, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey could become the next Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook.

“Obviously, I believe in the players we have on this team, I believe in the coaching staff, I believe in the organization as a whole, so the answer is an obvious yes. I think we can reach really high heights. At the end of the day, it’s going to come down to what the guys in the locker decide to come together and achieve. It’s not going to be an overnight thing. We’re having early success, but just because we’re having success doesn’t make it easy for the next 10 years. We’re still going to have to work hard and work through different challenges. That’s something that we’ll strive to do. We got a lot of high-quality characters in our locker room, so I’m excited to get out there and work with those guys.”

Hopefully, we do see the Oklahoma City Thunder achieve success in the future. The goal is obviously to win the championship, and perhaps that will happen for the team in the next few seasons.
