Ben Simmons’ situation in the NBA has somehow gone from bad to worse with every passing month in the last 2 years. He is currently unable to get on the floor for the Brooklyn Nets, a sad fall from grace for a promising star.

And while he was once an All-Star and touted as one of the league’s best, Chandler Parsons recently put something out there that might be hard to refute.

(starts at 1:55 minutes)

“It’s just a strong mental block, in my opinion, where he just can’t overcome it,” Parsons said about Ben Simmons. “And we almost have to stop talking about it. We have to take him for what he is, I think eventually, it’s going to lead to a buyout, and he’s most likely a minimum player for the rest of his career until he magically shows that he can play or produce at a high level again.”

Although he was never as good as Simmons was, Chandler Parsons knows what it’s like to be on a huge contract and then underperform. He’s been in that place before, although his issues were more injury-related, and it’s hard to not believe him when he says that Ben Simmons might be done. If the reports are to be believed, he’s certainly done in Brooklyn, although that might not be the case just yet.

The Nets Might Not Shut Ben Simmons Down For The Season

There have been people that thought having a team of elite role players around him after Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving might help get Ben Simmons going again. But so far, his injury woes have gotten in the way. And his mental health is likely still an issue, especially with former teammates still taking shots at him. There have been reports that the Nets could shut him down for the rest of the season, But Shams Charania said that won’t happen.

“There are no plans for the Nets to shut [Ben Simmons] down from what I’m told, the hope is that he’s back in the near future,” said Shams Charania.

Ben Simmons is averaging a proverbial triple-single this season, with 6.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. Considering how much he is earning, that is a shabby return, to say the least. At this point, many fans will cheer Ben Simmons on if he shows signs of getting back to his best, but the likelihood of what Parsons said happening is unfortunately higher.
