Russell Westbrook has recently signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, and there is no doubt that this was a controversial move. Though some are high on his fit with the team, there are a lot of Westbrook doubters as well.
Recently, NBA insider Law Murray of The Athletic revealed that the Los Angeles Clippers signed Russell Westbrook to take some “ballhandling responsibility” from stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, noting that the Clippers will be happy if the move ends up in their stars having “more juice” late in games.
But Westbrook can get to the free throw line at a high rate, is still a good playmaker, and can push the pace. And if it means that George and Leonard have more juice to be efficient later in games, then the Clippers will take that.
There is no doubt that this is a good move for the Los Angeles Clippers, especially if Russell Westbrook improves his efficiency due to all the 3PT shooting that is present on the Los Angeles Clippers roster.
Hopefully, we see Russell Westbrook find success with the Los Angeles Clippers. The stage is set for him to contribute to a championship team, and we’ll see if he manages to be a productive player for them going forward. If this move works out, it could increase the Clippers’ ceiling as a team and help them in a tough Western Conference.
Paul George Really Wanted The Clippers To Sign Russell Westbrook
Paul George really wanted the Los Angeles Lakers to sign Russell Westbrook, even openly claiming that the point guard could be good for the team. He is likely excited to team up with Westbrook again, as he duo were notably teammates on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“If there’s somebody out there, Russell. You know, if it makes sense and obviously it goes with our team, we’re all for it. We’re all for having a point guard. But you know, in saying that, I think we’re good as well if nothing happens. I think we’ve got enough in this locker room to make it work. But it would definitely improve our team… Make the game easy. Hopefully Russell sees this, and we figure something out.”
Paul George had his best season next to Russell Westbrook, and perhaps he could help the star play better now that they are teammates once again. Having a floor general like Russell Westbrook will be beneficial for the Clippers overall as well, as he would be surrounded by scorers that can take advantage of his playmaking.
Hopefully, Russell Westbrook can help the Los Angeles Clippers reach the next level. The team clearly took a risk on signing him, but the point guard’s talent is absolutely worth it.
