For much of last season, the conversation surrounding the Denver Nuggets was just how good this team could be if they were healthy. Jamal Murray missed the whole of the 2021-22 campaign due to injury while Michael Porter Jr. only managed to play 9 games.

Well, we have gotten the answer to that question, as with both of them now healthy to support reigning 2-time MVP Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets have taken off. They have the best record in the Western Conference at 40-18 and Jokic is once again leading the MVP race.

The last time the Nuggets had sustained success like they are enjoying at the moment, was when George Karl was their head coach in the 2000s and he feels this current iteration might be the best team in franchise history.

40 wins pre ASG is special. This may be the best Nuggets team ever but they gotta go further than 76, 85 and 09. And they can! pic.twitter.com/KkwELT2C2z

“40 wins pre ASG is special. This may be the best Nuggets team ever but they gotta go further than 76, 85 and 09. And they can!”

The Nuggets are just one of three teams to get to 40 wins before the All-Star break this season, along with the Boston Celtics and the Milwaukee Bucks. This might well be the best team in franchise history but as Karl said, they have to go further than the 1985 and 2009 teams which lost in the Conference Finals, and the 1976 version that lost in the ABA Finals. This core, when they were fully healthy, made it all the way to the Conference Finals in 2020 and they are a lot better now, so they should make a deep run.

George Karl Took A Shot At The Los Angeles Lakers

It was the Los Angeles Lakers who beat the Nuggets in their last three trips to the Conference Finals but it doesn’t look like they’ll be standing in their way this time. The Lakers have a 26-32 record at the moment and head coach Darvin Ham has come under fire recently.

Karl came to Ham’s defense, as he stated that the Lakers are lucky to have him and that you won’t find many coaches who would have success with this team. He also went on to make fun of the Bubble Championship they had won and unsurprisingly got roasted for it by Lakers fans.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
