The Phoenix Suns completed a great deal ahead of the 2023 trade deadline, sending three players and four first-round picks to the Brooklyn Nets to land Kevin Durant and a known face like TJ Warren.
This move was dubbed as the best of the trade deadline, and some even call it the greatest trade in NBA history. Now that Durant is a part of this franchise, the Suns are considered the biggest favorites to win the 2023 NBA championship after completing an incredible Big 3.
It’s hard to imagine this team not making a deep playoff run, but not everybody is convinced that the Suns can go all the way to the Finals, let alone win the championship at the end of the season.
Charles Barkley Doubts That Phoenix Suns Can Win The West Easily
A former Suns player recently discussed this situation, claiming that only their brand-new Big 3 wouldn’t be enough to come out of the West and compete for the Larry O’Brien trophy. Charles Barkley, one of the best players in Suns’ history, explained that they need more than three stars.

“The West is so good now, you’re going to need a good bench. You can’t go to war with just KD, Booker, and Ayton. Because the West is so loaded. If they played the Clippers, the Lakers now, I haven’t even mentioned Memphis, your bench is going to be really, really important.”
Chuck stated that they need to add more pieces since the guys they have right now aren’t big enough to compete for more. That’s why he urged them to try to find pieces in the buyout market to keep strengthening their roster.
“They gave up a lot so I think the buyout market – I’m going to be watching that for my Suns. Our starting unit, we’re good to go, but to win three series just to get to the Finals, your bench is going to be huge.”
The Suns are ready to make a splash this season and go all the way to the Finals. They were close to winning it all in 2021, but the Milwaukee Bucks ruined their plans. Now, they have somebody that knows what it takes to win, and their other two stars will do everything to reach the promised land. This appears to be a perfect situation for the Suns, but Barkley wants to see something else before the playoffs start.
