With just 36 points to go before becoming the NBA’s All-Time leading scorer, LeBron James is on the verge of a monumental feat.

The night is so big, in fact, the Lakers are having to take some extra precautions to ensure the safety of their players, the fans, and the media is preserved throughout the night against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Ahead of the game, TNT’s Stephanie Ready broke down how the team at Crypto.com arena has been preparing for the potentially record-breaking night.

“It’s different because they are expecting a lot more people and a lot more press. This morning at shootaround, for Lakers on a normal game day, they probably have a dozen media members. Today they had almost two dozen, so that’s double. Tonight, for credential requests, they normally have about 70, they have for tonight 220. They never use the hockey-press area that’s upstairs, they are using that tonight for media overflow. They are changing the location of the pre-game press conference. because they are expecting that many people…”

The All-Time scoring record is one of the most impressive in sports, so it makes sense that so many people want to be there to cover what will be an amazing moment for the King.

NBA To Honor LeBron James During All-Star Weekend

Whether it’s tonight against the Thunder or Thursday against Giannis and the Bucks, LeBron James will almost surely have the scoring record before the All-Star break next week, and the NBA is apparently planning a big celebration.

Silver assured reporters the league will not whiff when LeBron James passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading points champion. The game in which it happens will get not only a national but a global TV audience with ceremonies during and after. With a gap of 283 points and at James’ 29.8 scoring average, it is likely James (38,104) will catch and pass Abdul-Jabbar (38,387) in the first half of February. That would enable the league to use All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City as “the perfect opportunity to honor him.”

James was once again voted in as an All-Star starter this year, and he will likely be the center of attention as the NBA recognizes his spectacular career.

The craziest part of it all, however, is that LeBron still isn’t done. As James himself said earlier this season, he’s not going anywhere and intends to continue being one of the best in the world for years to come.
