However, the Mavericks managed to land Irving because one of governor Joe Tsai’s “objectives” was to send Kyrie Irving to a team that was not his first choice.
“The Nets also succeeded, as one source close to the process put it, in meeting one of the presumed objectives held by team owner Joe Tsai by sending Irving somewhere other than the Lakers — his preferred destination.”
It is unfortunate for the Lakers that they weren’t able to land their preferred star due to Joe Tsai’s preference in a trade. They did also have some concerns about the star’s off-court behavior, professionalism, and durability as well. It is clear that multiple factors were at play, all of which resulted in the Mavericks landing Irving.
