For a while, it looked like no major moves were going to take place before the trade deadline. There were some solid players who were potentially on the move, but it didn’t seem like any star was particularly unhappy with the situation they were in.
That changed in an instant on Friday, with Kyrie Irving requesting a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. Kyrie’s decision seems to have come as a surprise to the Nets and Kevin Durant, as it would appear it didn’t seem he was unhappy behind the scenes. The focus then shifted to potential landing spots, and there aren’t too many, considering the problems Irving has caused in the past.
There has been one landing spot though, that has been talked about for a while, the Los Angeles Lakers. While not everyone is sold on the move, franchise legend Magic Johnson made it clear that he would love to see Kyrie in a Lakers jersey.

If there were no concerns regarding how Irving would act moving forward, this would be a no-brainer for any team, but the fact of the matter is that those concerns do exist. Just for this season though, this might be a great move but there would be some problems after that.
The Lakers Are Unsure About Trading For Kyrie Irving
While a fan like Magic would love the idea of Kyrie on the Lakers, there are a lot of factors to consider for their front office here. The biggest one would be if they are willing to give Kyrie a massive extension in the summer and Brian Windhorst said they are unsure about giving him a $200 million contract.
It comes down to just how desperate the Lakers are to win this year. They aren’t going to win the title this season unless they make a splash but this move, in particular, could potentially leave them in a very rough position after a few years. It doesn’t look like any other major move would be on the table though, so, some serious discussions will be held in the coming days on if they want to take this massive risk.
