The Los Angeles Clippers have long been considered the most stacked roster in the Western Conference. This hasn’t translated to championships though. And while much of that is thanks to terrible luck with injuries, there are other reasons that the Clippers haven’t been able to get it done as well. One of the most well-publicized ones is their consistent failure to get a proper point guard.

Before the trade deadline, the Los Angeles Clippers were linked to the likes of Russell Westbrook, Kyle Lowry, and Fred VanVleet. The John Wall addition didn’t quite work and Wall was traded away by the franchise. But they didn’t trade for any of the aforementioned point guards, and  President Of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank’s recent quotes seem like a shot at their options.

Lawrence Frank said the Clippers were in conversations for a ‘true point guard,’ but adds that at the end of the day, ‘you play through your best players.’

“If there was a point guard that could be in our top 8 or 9, we looked at those guys… Someone who won’t be played off the floor defensively… Play on ball but not be so ball dominant… Gotta be able to shoot.”

These all seem like different digs for the shortcomings that the likes of Westbrook, Lowry, and VanVleet all have. There have been other reports suggesting that the Clippers hierarchy doesn’t like Westbrook’s fit with their current stars. But considering how those stars feel, they might go and get Russ in the buyout market after all.

Paul George Has Called On The Clippers To Potentially Work Something Out With Russell Westbrook

Paul George and Russell Westbrook were teammates in the past and the Clippers’ star still clearly thinks quite highly of Russ. His latest comments urging the team to make a move for Westbrook might be a little contradictory to how the decision-makers feel.

“But it would definitely improve our team… Make the game easy. Hopefully Russell sees this, and we figure something out.”

Russell Westbrook has been an MVP and perennial All-Star in the past, but considering Frank’s requirements, he’s far from an ideal fit from the franchise’s perspective. Their lack of a point guard shouldn’t bother them as much as it does with the amount of talent on the roster, but it’ll be interesting to see how they address it if at all, moving forward.
