Russell Westbrook was once one of the best players in the league and even took home the 2016-17 NBA MVP award home. But Westbrook’s days of being that dominant are certainly over, and his stint with the Los Angeles Lakers is the biggest proof of it.

After months of rumors, the Los Angeles Lakers finally decided to trade Brodie. In return, the organization got D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, and Jarred Vanderbilt. With that 3-team trade, the short era of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook is officially over.

Looking back at their time together as teammates, it was far from ideal. At the end of the day, Westbrook and the Lakers couldn’t iron out their issues during their time together.

NBA Analyst Brian Windhorst On The Lakers Trading Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook certainly didn’t have the best of relationships with the Lakers, but after he got traded, fans had mixed feelings about his departure. Whether the fanbase showed love or hate for Russ was secondary, the primary concern was how well did Westbrook get along with his teammates.

As per NBA analyst Brian Windhorst, trading Westbrook was a wise decision by the Lakers because the former NBA MVP was killing the team.

“Now you actually have a real roster. Again, no offense to anybody, but just removing Westbrook, who just functionally was killing them. He was killing them! So now you have guys that could help and now this team goes from probably having 10th-8th-9th place talent to honestly probably 5th-6th-7th place talent. Now whether they can get up there with where they’re at the standings is a different question.”

As Windhorst explained, having Westbrook on the roster killed the depth of the team. But with him gone from the roster, it has helped the team in adding multiple supporting players who can gel well with LeBron James and Anthony Davis to at least help the Lakers clinch a play-in tournament spot.
