As the NBA trade deadline comes closer, the speculation around which players will be traded and which of them will stay put is becoming quite frenzied. 4-team trades are being suggested, role players are being valued to cost first-round picks, and in general, it feels like the storm could break at any moment.
One of the teams discussed most often is the Toronto Raptors. Despite having some excellent players on their roster, including an All-Star talent like Pascal Siakam, there seems to be a very good chance they will blow it all up. And if they do decide to make that happen, one of the players that nearly every team in the league would want is OG Anunoby.
Memphis Grizzlies Named As Suitors For OG Anunoby
There have been reports that Anunoby himself is unhappy in Toronto. And the trade speculation around him has gotten a little out of hand as well. And while it’s all been about how he could leave so far, Mike Scotto of HoopsHype has finally named a suitor.
“There’s been some speculation from a few rival executives that the Memphis Grizzlies could make a run at OG Anunoby, given their surplus of draft picks in the years to come… There was also a report out there, I believe from the Toronto Star, that one mystery team previously offered three first-round picks for Anunoby… I don’t see Toronto getting a better package than that for him.”
The Memphis Grizzlies could give up quite a few picks at this point, they have some young players they can move on from as well. Anunoby could move to Memphis in a deal involving Dillon Brooks and Zaire Williams, which would help to match salary. As one of the most versatile and effective defenders in the league who puts up 17 points per game, he could make them instant contenders.
If he is to be traded soon, though, the Grizzlies will have a lot of competition from other teams around the league as well. The Raptors potentially wanting 3 first-round picks could price many franchises out of any potential deal, though, but the Grizzlies need to consider if they want to give that much draft capital up as well. There’s still no guarantee that the Raptors will trade him, but if they do, it would be hard to find a better fit than the Grizzlies.
