Kyrie Irving’s future with the Brooklyn Nets was one of the biggest topics of discussion the previous summer. Last season Kyrie was in the headlines for his antics and the number of games which he missed due to his off-the-court issues. As a result, many believed that Irving’s time with the Nets would come to an end.

However, not only Irving ended up playing for the Brooklyn Nets, he has simply been sensational this season. But he is yet to sign a contract extension with the team. Keeping that in mind, his future with the organization has once again become a hot topic.

The Brooklyn Nets Are In No Rush To Provide Kyrie Irving A Contract Extension

If Kyrie Irving doesn’t sign a contract extension soon, it may seem like things are not going well between him and the Nets. But as per NBA insider Marc Stein, that’s not the case. Stein revealed that although Irving wants to re-sign, any substantial talks between the two sides are yet to begin.

Via Stein Line:

“As Kyrie Irving’s agent and stepmother Shetellia Riley Irving told my podcast partner Chris Haynes in a Bleacher Report story last week, Irving hopes to sign a contract extension with the Nets — but substantive talks between the sides have yet to begin. Some league observers have posited that this could be by design on Brooklyn’s part, with the Nets apparently convinced that they are under no pressure to move swiftly on the extension front when Irving would likely need their help via sign-and-trade to relocate in the offseason to any other team he likes. The Nets were on a stunning 18-2 surge when Kevin Durant was sidelined by a knee sprain on Jan. 8 and have gone 4-6 with Irving as their solo scoring force.”

As of now, both options are open for Kyrie Irving. Either way, we will get a much more clear picture of how the Nets will perform once Kevin Durant returns from injury. If the Nets still fail to make any substantial impact in the postseason, they may end up losing both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant this offseason.
