Hakeem Olajuwon is one of the most well-respected players in the history of the NBA. The Dream was serious about his craft, honing his incredible talent to perfection and claiming two NBA championships for the Houston Rockets. Olajuwon was an international star, coming to the United States for college before making it to the league. It seems there were parts of the American experience he enjoyed a lot.
The USA is home to some of the most popular fast-food chains around the world, and perhaps none is as famous as McDonald’s. The burger franchise has nearly 40,000 locations around the world, everyone knows what it is. And they have a long history with basketball, sponsoring the high school All-American game. Bronny James was just named a McDonald’s All-American, for example. And the burger giant and Olajuwon coming together led to a really fun story back in the day.
Hakeem Olajuwon Took 5 Hours To Get A Shot For A McDonald’s Commercial Right And Ended Up Eating 100 McNuggets
Chicken McNuggets are a popular item on the McDonald’s menu, and Hakeem Olajuwon was the man chosen to promote them in a commercial back in the day. Shooting the whole thing proved to be a lot more difficult than might have been anticipated, though, and took 5 hours. The story that came out of it is pretty interesting.
Sure, you know about Hakeem Olajuwon's 2x rings, his HOF numbers, amazing footwork and the quadruple-double.
But did you know, Hakeem (then Akeem) once consumed a 100 chicken nuggets in a 5 hour span for a McDonald's commercial.

“Akeem Olajuwon did a McDonald’s commercial in which he was required to execute dunk shots with Chicken McNuggets using his mouth as the hoop. It took five hours and more than 100 takes to get the spot just right. On every take, Olajuwon jammed another Chicken McNugget.
“Concerned that Olajuwon might be on his way to an overdose situation, a producer asked Olajuwon if he wanted to use a non-edible substitute for the McNuggets. ‘No, man,’ said Olajuwon, his dunkfest nearing the century mark, ‘I like these things. Let’s keep doing it.'”
The thought of Hakeem Olajuwon eating nugget after nugget while dunking them into his mouth is a hilarious one, but clearly, he enjoyed them. Superstar big men enjoying fast food seems to be a tradition in the NBA at this point, considering that Giannis Antetokounmpo also celebrated his first championship and Finals MVP by hitting up Chick-fil-A the next day.
