With an NBA-best 34-12 record, the Boston Celtics have been the best all season long, With Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford, and Robert Williams, the Cs have a solid core of veterans who are clicking at another level this season.

Then there’s Marcus Smart, who has emerged as a treasured pillar of the franchise after being drafted 6th overall in 2014.

Smart has been having a great season so far (11.4 points and 7.3 assists per game) and has been key to their success, which is why the latest development from Toronto could spell bad news for the team.

In the first half of Boston’s 106-104 win over the Raptors, Marcus had to be helped off the floor after rolling his ankle coming off a screen. He was on the floor for a while before being helped up and walked off while grimacing in pain.

The Celtics are good enough to keep rolling even without Marcus Smart, but their perimeter defense may take a noticeable hit. Depending on how long Smart is out, Tatum will have to step up offensively to keep his squad at the top of the standings.

Can The Celtics Win The Title This Season?

Fortunately, Smart’s x-rays came back clean and he has been marked as day-to-day. At most, the Cs will only have to endure a few day s without him.

Even still, they have their sights on a return to the NBA Finals and there is a widespread belief they can go all the way this time.

“If anything can get me to jump off the Warriors bandwagon it’s these Boston Celtics,” said Stephen A. Smith. “I think Boston might win it all. I’m looking at them right now, and Jayson Tatum is clearly my MVP. We’ve talked about others… In the end, Devin Booker was looking spectacular and he goes up against Bostonlast night and they get slaughtered. They were up 98-55 or something. Jayson Tatum is averaging 30 on like 48% shooting. Right now, the Boston Celtics should be the favorite to win it all. Number one offense and they’re 12th defensively, which isn’t bad.”

The Celtics will have to fight through some steep competition on the road to a title, but they’ve passed every test so far this season and appear hungrier than ever to win at the highest level.

Tonight’s win in Candada, after one of their core players went down, is just another example of the perseverance and resolve of this team.
