December 15th is a big day in the NBA calendar, as that is when a lot of players who signed new contracts in that offseason are eligible to be traded. There are always some deals that don’t work out and teams are always on the lookout to improve their roster.
January 15th is another big day, as players who signed new deals in the summer with a raise of at least 20% are only eligible to be traded from that day. The players also had to be signed using Bird or Early Bird rights to go over the salary cap, as per Bleacher Report’s Rob Goldberg, so the likes of Bradley Beal and Zach LaVine can now be traded. There are some who have an extension restriction and can’t be traded though, as per ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
There are 9 players that have an extension restriction and are ineligible to be traded:
CLE: Dean Wade
DAL: Maxi Kleber
DEN: Nikola Jokic
LAL: LeBron James
GSW: Andrew Wiggins
MIN: Karl-Anthony Towns
NOP: Larry Nance, Jr., CJ McCollum
PHX: Devin Booker

So, that’s just further confirmation that LeBron James is going nowhere this season. Nikola Jokic and Devin Booker are the two other big names there and while their franchises are going in opposite directions, it’s safe to say they’re more than happy to stay where they are. Jokic is also now leading the MVP race in the eyes of many as he looks to make history by becoming the first man since Larry Bird to win 3 in a row.
Where Will LeBron James End His Career?
LeBron could have been in that race for MVP if the Los Angeles Lakers weren’t such a mess. He has been putting up some amazing numbers as usual, but it hasn’t translated to wins. We are looking at a situation where a man, who has been widely recognized as the greatest player of the 21st century thanks to all of his incredible accomplishments, might end his career just trying to lift a poorly put-together team out of mediocrity.
No one really wants to see that which is why there have been growing calls for LeBron to leave after this season. There has been some talk of a reunion with the Miami Heat while the Golden State Warriors are in a great position to land him as well.
