At 38 years old, LeBron James is one of the oldest active players in the NBA in this season. But age is certainly not a problem for James when it comes to playing basketball at an elite level. If anything, he is currently the best player on the roster of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Speaking of the Lakers, they’ve had an incredibly bumpy 2022-23 NBA season so far. Due to that, LeBron James is expected to force out a trade from the team this summer. Although James has denied claims of him being frustrated by the team, the rumor mill suggests something completely different.
Among them, one of the rumors hinted towards the Miami Heat seeking a potential reunion with James.
LeBron James Could Go Back To South Beach This Summer
James’ first tenure with the Miami Heat lasted four seasons, and it produced the first two NBA Championships of his career. But it came at the cost of LeBron becoming the villain for almost every other NBA fan out there.
Fortunately, the league doesn’t hate James right now, and if he requests a trade this summer, the Heat are actually a pretty decent option for him. Sean Deveney of Heavy recently revealed that one Eastern Conference general manager believes the Heat could genuinely try to trade for LeBron James this offseason.
Via Heavy:
Eastern Conference GM: “They’re in the right position to make a deal like that. It did not end great between them (when James left the Heat as a free agent in 2014), but the hatchet has been buried enough. There could be an issue with, if you get LeBron and you get Rich Paul and all the Klutch (Sports, James’ agency) stuff, that is not going to mix with Pat Riley in Miami. But if he wants to win in a place he likes being, the Heat would take him back.”
Potential deal: The Lakers would have to be willing to take back the contracts of either Kyle Lowry ($29 million for next season) or Duncan Robinson ($37.5 million over the next two seasons with a partial guarantee in 2025-26) to make a trade work. But the prize would be Tyler Herro, whose four-year, $120 million extension kicks in next season. A package of Herro, Robinson and, if the Lakers need sweetener, a first-round pick or forward Nikola Jovic might be the best the Lakers could do for James.
For the Heat, this deal could mean instrumental as they will get a Big 3 of LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, and Bam Adebayo. But will the Lakers accept this trade? There is a pretty low chance of that happening. The organization will probably try to do everything in its power to stop James from leaving if he indeed demands a trade in the offseason.
