Shaquille O’Neal is one of the most colorful personalities that the NBA world has to offer. There is nothing Big Shaq hasn’t done, as fans like to joke. O’Neal spends his life after retirement completing ‘side quests.’ One of history’s most dominant big men, Shaq has gone on to become a very successful businessman, regularly hosts parties as a DJ, and holds a doctorate, among other achievements.

In the NBA, Shaquille O’Neal did enough to be considered one of the Top 10 or 15 players of all time. As a DJ, he brings joy to people around the world, including some NBA stars, and as a businessman, he’s built an empire worth over $400 million. But there is one pursuit in which Shaq did fail a bit, and that was when he tried to go into acting during the 90s.

Shaquille O’Neal Wished He Could Re-Do The Movie Steel With Some ‘Iron Man’ Effects

In 1997, Shaquille O’Neal starred in the movie Steel, a superhero film based on a DC Comics character of the same name. The film bombed, much like a few of his other ones, and it’s safe to say that many people weren’t thrilled by it. But superhero cinema has changed a lot in the last 10-15 years, and now Marvel and DC produce some of the biggest films in the entire world. And looking back now, Shaq wished he had some of the tools they have at their disposal now when he tried to be a superhero.

“When we did the movie, I would have liked to have those Iron Man effects,” O’Neal said regarding his movie. “But nah, we did the movie in the early ’90s, and technology wasn’t as it is now, but I would love to be able to do a redo of that.”

There is no reason that Superman can’t be a superhero on screen, although effects may not be enough to salvage Steel in particular. There’s a reason that the character hasn’t made a comeback in the age of superhero cinema and effects or not perhaps Shaq can write this one off as a misjudged venture that is best forgotten about. It does show that he’s always had the vision to know where things are headed, though.
