Nets superstar Kevin Durant was playing some of the best basketball of his life before going down with an MCL sprain earlier this week. While many fans were relieved the injury wasn’t as serious as it initially looked, Brooklyn still has to play the next four weeks without him and that’s not going to be an easy feat.
The good news, however, is that KD shouldn’t miss much time at all. In fact, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Durant could make a return in time for the All-Star game next month.
“There is optimism that he’s going to be able to return at some point before the All-Star break… and play in the game in Salt Lake City.”

Durant was the leading vote-getter in the East, which means he’ll be All-Star captain if the standings hold. Impressively, both he and Irving are on track to make the starting lineup — and it says a lot about how much the Nets have turned their season around.

The Durant/Irving experiment is in year three now, and the Nets don’t have anything to show for it thanks to injuries and questionable decisions from Kyrie Irving last season. But now, we are watching the Nets at full strength and the whole league has been put on notice.
“I have heard each of them talk about the art of basketball and I think that describes them well,” said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. “They just continue to elevate their craft. Their craft for the game. There’s great players in this league, and then there’s great players that are a different level where you can’t really do anything to scheme against them. You just have to do what you do extremely well, you can’t make mistakes, you have to make it tough and play really well. The way they can get to where they wanna go to and then see how they shoot is so uncommon because they see all these different schemes, everybody is challenging them everybody is trying to get into their airspace but they’re extremely accurate.”
It will be interesting to see how the Nets manage these next few weeks without Durant, but they still have Kyrie, Ben Simmons, and guys like Yuta Wantanabe to help make up for what they lost in Durant.
By the time he comes back, Brooklyn should still be right in the thick of things in the East.
