When the Brooklyn Nets traded for Ben Simmons, many expected the former Philadelphia 76ers star to immediately make the Nets a better team. After all, he has two great teammates in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

After a shaky start to the 2022-23 NBA season, the Brooklyn Nets have certainly made a stunning comeback as they are currently second in the Eastern Conference. But what they have achieved so far this season, the credit for most of it goes to Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. In fact, Ben Simmons is having a pretty quiet season.

Simmons is currently averaging just 7.7 PPG, 6.7 RPG, and 6.0 APG while shooting just 41.3% from the free throw line.

Ben Simmons’ Poor Free Throw Shooting Is A Blessing In Disguise For The Brooklyn Nets

Simmons and his struggles with shooting from the three-point line and the free throw line is nothing new. He has been criticized for that throughout his career. However, Simmons’ lack of shooting is not a problem for the Nets.

On top of that, an interesting stat about Simmons’ free throw shooting or lack of free throw shooting has emerged, thanks to the renowned Twitter page StatMuse.

The Nets are now 19-3 when Ben Simmons doesn’t make a free throw.

As shocking as it may sound, the Nets are winning games whenever Ben Simmons doesn’t make even a single free throw. Simmons’ struggle from the charity stripe has certainly proven good for the Nets.

At the end of the day, winning games is the ultimate target for the team, and if Simmons missing free throws is helping in achieving that goal, the Nets will gladly accept that. As for Simmons, he will certainly not feel that bad about missing both free throws against the 76ers earlier this season and getting Chick-Fil-A for the team’s fans.
