Zion Williamson is a man on a mission for the New Orleans Pelicans, and he has a point to prove.

The power forward poured his career-high 43 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves to help the side win 119-118. The performance now puts the Pelicans first in the West with a 22-12 record.

On his part, Williamson’s been doing some homework of his own, following some of the older stars who have tasted significant success in the league, while also hinting that he was keen to win.

Zion Williamson: [I] watch a lot of old school players, I like to try to figure out their mind sets and all their mind sets was the same. People will remember winners… I want people to say that [I was] a winner.” #Pelicans

He further added:

“So whenever that time comes for me to be done with the game of basketball, I want people to say that he was a winner. And CJ (McCollum) looked at me and said, ‘If you wanna be great, this is the time to step up.’ And that was all the motivation I needed.”

Williamson’s run has been instrumental in the Pelicans’ successful journey. They are playoff favorites, thanks to him and the team’s ability to punch well above their weight.

NBA Analyst Antonio Daniels Explains Why Zion Williamson Has Been Unstoppable

Such has been the form that Zion Williamson has been in that he’s steamrolled almost every team he’s played this season. He’s had only five games where he’s scored below 20 points which speaks volumes about his performance this year.

The forward has been averaging 25.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists this season for the Pelicans. Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, analyst Antonio Daniels explained why Williamson has been unstoppable.

If it’s not unstoppable, I haven’t seen anyone that can stop it as of yet. It’s not just the unstoppable in the sense of stopping him from scoring. Because that’s only one aspect of it.

Another aspect of it is his ability to see the floor and make his teammates better… He did a post game presser, where he talked about guys he grew up watching… They were all point guards. Everybody. It’s one thing to be able to see the floor… It’s another thing to have the skill set to see the floor and deliver the pass… That’s what makes great players great players.

Williamson and the Pelicans will look to continue their impressive run as the season inches toward the midway mark. They play the Philadelphia 76ers next, followed by a clash against Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies.
